In my enthusiasm to try new things, I might have bitten off more than I could swallow today. Out of curiosity, I tried another form of aerobics class at Holiday Gym & Spa (they’re changing names starting tomorrow). Would you believe, “Cardio Strip-Tease”?

I don’t have any issues about having to appear macho in gyms, so I gamely joined the girls in today’s 5:30pm strip-tease aero class. It started out kinda fun actually — those sexy hip-bumping and stuff. But after one routine and the teacher asked us to grab chairs for the next routine… you know, like performing on stage in a club, gyrating and twirling around a chair? I guess I still have a tinge of machismo after all, but I had to draw the line.

Was it a coincidence that I busted my ass lifting weights after that? ;-)

My trainer, Ted, introduced me to rehabilitative weightlifting for my shoulders starting today. See, both my shoulders were injured (in two separate occasions) back in college. I was very active in judo then…. Ever since I got injured, especially my left shoulder, there’ve been certain movements in weightlifting that cause pain. Not really the excruciating kind, but it is rather worrisome.

So Ted had me do 45° dumbbell lifts, and I guess I’ll have to keep at it in order to strengthen my shoulder muscles. Forty-five degrees from my torso, straight-arm lifts, thumbs on the same side of the dumbbells as the other fingers, palms facing inward. Just 3kgs each, 3 sets of 12 reps. This movement caused no pain to the ligaments at all, and I could feel my shoulder muscles firming up. Hopefully after a number of sessions of this, my shoulders will have become strong enough for me to be able to do more serious deltoid-enhancing exercises.
