Recently, an acquaintance approached me after finding out that I’d gotten back to working out. We were together in another gym some years ago. He’s really bulked up now… well, that’s because he’s been working out continuously ever since, a regular gym buff. But, as I was to find out, there’s actually another reason for his impressive muscles. He came by to see me to show off his muscles, because he was trying to sell me something.
No, not anything illegal, not steroids. Supplements for muscle-building. Protein boosters, or something that sounded like that. He had shakes, drops, pills. I must say, he made a good pitch — plus the fact that he’s his own walking advertisement.
However, I didn’t bite. Two reasons: 1) I don’t intend to bulk up, I just want to be lean and fit; 2) my liver’s in tip-top shape as far as I know, and I’d like to keep it that way.
I’ve always been averse to taking drugs, legal or otherwise. Illegal drugs, for obvious reasons. Legal drugs like vitamins and medicine? Well, I try to minimize my intake of pills and such. I have this notion that they will eventually be harmful to my liver, you see. So, for vitamins I rely on fruits and vegetables (but, since I smoke, I take vitamin C 500mg tablets).
I must say, I was tempted though. The sight of this guy all muscled up, for a brief moment, it made me want to try the supplements he was offering up. But, good thing I didn’t have any extra cash on me then!
