Resistance bands – what they do

Resistance bands (sometimes called tubes) are made up of an elastic material that you anchor on a solid or stationary object for working out. They give you a free range of workout because you can place the bands high or low, depending on the target area you plan to build. The great thing about resistance bands is their portability. Unlike weights or fitness machines, resistance bands can be carried anywhere by just bundling it up. This is perfect for those who travel a lot and desire to have a quick workout at the end of the day without the hassle of rushing to the gym just before a scheduled period of travel.

Others do not like using resistance bands because they feel that the bands do not give them the appropriate amount of resistance for working out. For those who are used to utilizing weights for fitness training, using these bands can be very awkward because the there is no fixed or predictable resistance due to the force of gravity. However, the beauty of resistance bands is that the downward motion can be as difficult as the upward motion, with the resistance coming from the tensile strength of the bands. This will enable you to develop balance and coordination as you practice proper form during each execution of motion.

Resistance bands are cheaper in comparison with weights and exercise machines. Even though you are under tight budget, you can still train and tone your muscles. Just like weights, resistance bands come in a variety of tension designed to give you increased resistance as you build muscle strength. Placing them in different positions can give you a similar workout just like your favorite exercise routines. For example: Standing on the bands will help you perform bicep curls to train your arms. Sitting while pushing on the bands with your feet will effectively simulate a rowing machine that enables you to train your back and shoulder muscles.

You may not get the same intensity of training with resistance bands compared to weights. Still, they can still give you a good workout to help maintain your fitness level, and they also promote flexibility that can be compromised with the use of exercise machines. They can help add variety to your training, and the ease of use will makes them a good addition to your workout equipments at home.
