Many of my friends and relatives have remarked how good my mother still looks, considering she’s already well in her golden years. In fact, she still looks to be in her 40s. People who don’t know us and meet us for the first time get a mild shock when they find out that I’m really her son.

Aside from having been blessed with good skin and a petite figure, my Mom doesn’t neglect to exercise. She’s never been athletic, but now she’s taken up walking in the wee hours of the morning, about 3 times a week. There’s a mall near where we live, and she and Pop go there and walk around the whole lot (I think it’s about 5 hectares big) a few times until they work up a sweat. That is, when pop doesn’t go running.

Post truncated…

A few days ago I met an energetic group of college guys whose passion is dancing. Their main interests lie in hip hop and breakdancing, but I was surprised to find out that their training is in ballet. Continue reading Dancing as powerful exercise

Truth be told, I haven’t been back to the gym for about a month now. My M-W-F workout routine was disrupted by erratic schedules at work. Lately I’ve been with clients who seem to prefer unconventional hours…. I could change my gym schedule, I suppose, but there’s no telling when my work hours will “normalize”. Continue reading Hiatus

I’ve mentioned in a previous post that my shoulders were injured during my judo days. Well, my left shoulder started acting up again, and so I haven’t been working out at the gym for 2 weeks now. In the first few days I couldn’t raise my left arm sideways. My friend, who’s a physical therapist, told me I have an impinged shoulder. Continue reading Impinged shoulder

Yesterday afternoon was uncharacteristically cool and windy, so I thought I’d stroll around the city for a change. First off, I walked from home (in Matina) and up Sandawa Road to the damaged Bankerohan Bridge. I wanted to take pictures of the bridge and write about it in my Davao blog. The weather was so agreeable that I decided to go walk some more; that was my very first time to cross a bridge on foot here in Davao.

From there I walked to my friend’s office on Magallanes St., had a spot of coffee, then proceeded to an internet café to post my blog article about the bridge. When I emerged from the café, it was lightly drizzling, but still I walked on. This time I thought I’d visit my friend’s studio, Corework Pilates, on Jacinto Extension. But he wasn’t around when I got there, so I walked on to Victoria Plaza, to one of my favorite coffee shops, Basti’s Brew.

Oh by the way, I still do weigh in at 69kg. :)
