sexy absCrunches, that is! For those of you who want to get abs like this — or at least a flat tummy — here’s a proven method. If you persevere and don’t skip sessions, results can be realized in less time than you might think. But no, this isn’t a get-abs-quick scheme. Like I said, it’s proven.

Every other day after waking up and before getting out of bed, do a set of 15 crunches. Lay flat on your back, your lower back imprinted onto your mattress, and execute those intense crunches! After about 3 to 4 weeks of doing this (again, without missing a day!) you’ll sense that you’ve reached a plateau; you’ll feel that it’s gotten easy to do. At that point, add 3 to 5 more reps. And so on and so forth! Continue reading It’s crunch time!

At Holiday Spa Fitness, I’ve pretty much settled into a routine now. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 5:30 to around 8 PM (including the time for sauna and shower). It’s important to have a set schedule for working out, for the following reasons:

  • you will reach your fitness goals more surely;
  • it will be easier for you to make the trip to the gym once you’ve gotten used to the routine;
  • other regular activities will stand to benefit as well, i.e., you’ll most probably end up scheduling them as well.

I wasn’t able to go to the gym yesterday. I had no plans of missing the session, but a client called and invited me to an early dinner, and I couldn’t say no to that. And then afterwards, a friend called me over to our favorite watering hole…. So I had a few beers and a couple of vodkas last night, and I’m feeling really lousy today. But, I’m heading off to the gym as soon as I post this.

The first hurdle that I really must overcome is my bad sleeping cycle. For many years now I’ve gotten used to going to bed at 3 or 4 a.m., and getting up at 10 or so. Occasionally I’d wake up early for appointments and such, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’d slept early the previous night. My Circadian rhythm’s completely out of whack!

I was thinking about this last night: what’s the best way to "normalize" sleeping cycles? I mean, the accepted sleeping hours. Is it better to gradually adjust your bedtime, say, half an hour earlier over the course of a few weeks? Or do it by brute approach, like stay up the whole time until it’s the "proper" time to go to bed? By then you’d be so exhausted you’d probably sleep soundly for enough hours.

Am I making sense? If not, that’s because I’m trying the second approach. Had just a few hours of sleep last night because I’m so not used to sleeping at a, well, godly hour. My temper’s shot too, as it is wont to be when I am lacking in Zzz’s.

If I did it gradually, I wonder if it would be better?
